JEFIC brought African and European leaders together to mobilise investment for Africa

Oct 15, 2026

How can development banks help unlock more public and private investment for Africa? This question was at the heart of a high-level roundtable organised by JEFIC during the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Bangkok.

The event, entitled “Mobilising Public and Private Capital for Africa: The Role of Development Banks in Scaling Investment and Partnerships”, took place on 14 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. It brought together senior representatives of African and European governments, public development banks, development finance institutions and European institutions.

The discussion focused on practical ways to increase investment flows to Africa and strengthen cooperation between public institutions, development banks and private investors. Participants addressed Africa’s investment needs in areas including infrastructure, energy, digital transformation and connectivity, climate resilience, food security, healthcare and industrial value chains.

Development banks as catalysts for investment

The event was opened by Mirosław Czekaj, President of the Management Board of BGK.

In his opening remarks, he welcomed the participants and introduced the main theme of the meeting: the role of development banks in building partnerships and mobilising capital for projects that support Africa’s sustainable economic transformation.

The opening was followed by keynote addresses delivered by Andrzej Domański, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Poland, and Marjeta Jager, Director at the European Commission, on behalf of Commissioner Jozef Síkela.

Their contributions set the scene for a broader discussion on the future of cooperation between Africa and Europe, the importance of private sector engagement and the need to use public resources in ways that can attract additional investment.

African and European perspectives at the roundtable

The roundtable discussion brought together senior government representatives from Angola, Kenya and Nigeria, alongside leaders and senior executives from European development banks and financial institutions, including members of JEFIC, as Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) with Brigitte Réthier, Member of the Executive Board, Agence Française de Développement (AFD) with Quiterie Pincent, Executive Director, and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) with Giulio Dal Magro, Head of Sovereigns, Blending and Technical Assistance, CDP International Cooperation.

The discussion focused on how development banks and public institutions could mobilise private capital for bankable projects in Africa, supported by effective risk-sharing and stronger Africa–Europe partnerships. The roundtable was concluded with remarks by prof. Marta Postuła, First Vice President of the Management Board of BGK.
